Fabulous Makeup for Women Over 50 🙌

Women constantly ask me questions about what they can and can’t do after a certain age. Can they wear shimmer? Yes! Can they do a cateye? Yes! Can they wear powder blush or eyeshadow? Yes! Can they wear a bold lip? Yes!!!

As long as they know the proper way to apply everything!!! There are a couple of tips and tricks to applying makeup that help highlight your great features and draw attention away from fine lines, wrinkles, and texture. This video (with my fabulous mother-in-law) is a perfect example of using bold products in a way that brings out natural beauty, no matter what age. I think she looks hot, don’t you think?!?!

Here are some steps and my product recommendations!

Forgive me, but the FaceApp is HILARIOUS and also horrifying. 90 year old me but still rockin’ good hair thanks to ROIL Salon !!!

MOISTURIZE

This is HUGE!!! Especially as we get older, our skin needs extra nourishment. Moisturizing before makeup helps it achieve the healthy glow we strive for. Plus it feels great, right?

OIL - Start with an oil if you’re really dry.

CREAM - This is a pre-makeup MUST. You need a good hydrating cream to strengthen and prepare the skin.

EYE CREAM - Give some extra love to the eyes with an eye-specific cream or oil.

EYE MASK - This is the true magic secret to getting rid of tired, puffy eyes.

LIP BALM - If you hydrate your lips at this point in the process, they’ll be nice and moisturized by the time you get to lipstick!

I love the Kimiko Super Fine Eyebrow Pencil because it’s light…you can easily add more, but you won’t over-do it!

EYES

BROWS - Lightly fill in the brows and set them with a brow gel.

EYE SHADOW STICKS - These are great because you have more control. Whether they are shimmer or matte, rub a neutral or copper color on the lid and stay BELOW the crease. You don’t need to blend up beyond that. There is a lot more texture (echem…wrinkles…echem) up beyond the crease. No need to accentuate that!

  2. Nudestix Magnetic Eye Color

EYE SHADOW POWDER - Simply apply powder on top of the liquid stick color if you want.

BLEND - Blend both together!

CATEYE

Wait. Hold up. Did I just say cateye? YEP, you can do a cateye at every age…if you know how to do it right! Let me help ya out.

Judith Light: one of my amazing clients and a woman who knows that you can wear WHATEVER. YOU. WANT.

BLACK SHADOW LINER - Use an angled eyeshadow brush to apply black eyeshadow along the outer corner of your top lid. Powder first so you can change the shape if you mess up at all. This will also make your cateye look less drastic and harsh.

Brush a little past the end of your lid like a cateye. Any time you add more color along your lash line, it will make your lashes look thicker and fuller.

CREAM EYE LINER - I rub the cream on my hand and apply it with a brush. That way I have more control and can really get in there.

TOP MASCARA - Duh!! Apply your mascara from the very root of the lash and wiggle your way up. This helps separate the lashes so you avoid those awful clumps.

LASHES - You don’t want to overwhelm with false lashes, but a few separated lashes will make your eyes really pop. Definitely watch the video to see how I apply these. I apply them on the outside of the eye only.

BOTTOM MASCARA - Use a mascara with a thinner applicator so you can add definition without over-doing it.

FACE

PRIMER - A good primer helps your skin look fresh and your makeup stay ON! We want both those things, don’t we, ladies??

  • Cover FX Gripping Primer (you can use or combine any of the Cover FX primers…they are my ultimate faves) (15% CODE: JAMIEMAKEUP)

FOUNDATION - Just a lil goes a long way! Look for products that are moisturizing. You don’t want a lot of the ingredient MICA in it.

CONCEALER - Apply under the eyes to combat dark and blend all over. You don’t need to put too much product on, you just need to blend!

Kosas cream blush and highlighter palettes are so nice. SO NICE.

CREAM BLUSH - Lay down the color with a cream first. Go in with a powder after to give a little more dimension.

POWDER BLUSH - Add a little (did you hear me? A little!!) over the cream. Stay on the cheek and up,not below that. And throw a little highlighter over it if you want to add even more hydration! Some blushes (like the Thrive blush) have a bit of that natural highlight built in.

LIPS

LIP - Honestly, you don’t really need me for this part. At a certain age, you know what lipstick you love!!! Apply that sucker on (maybe with a little liner if you want to accentuate your lips more) and blow kisses to the crowd!!!

There you have it!! A makeup look that brings out your natural beauty and accentuates the areas you want to accentuate. All it takes is a little practice, so as always I encourage you to try something out of your comfort zone. Even if you’re not into the end result, you might find something along the way that you love!!

Aside from this makeup routine, here are a couple skincare / anti-aging products that I also think help keep skin youthful and healthy:

  • SiO Beauty Pads (25% OFF: JAMIEMAKEUP

  • Dermaflash (10% OFF CODE: jamievip)
